There I was, standing at the pier looking at the water in anticipation of the maiden launch of my paddle board. I had just met my new friends, Lynn, Meg and Sandy a like minded adventurous crew.
We launched our boards and kayaks into the water, and off we went toward destinations unknown. As we paddled toward a nearby cove, we spotted a flash of light in the trees. We paddled for a closer look - and to our surprise saw five pirates on the shore digging up treasure!
With one mind, we closed in on the pirates and engaged in a battle for the gold. They had long swords of steel, we had carbon paddles - not a fair fight for sure. As we parried and blocked, it became apparent the pirates were frightened by this group of women wearing bright colors, yelling with authority and laughing manically.
Just as thought we would lose the fight, one pirate swung with all his might, hitting me squarely in the face with the flat of his sword, knocking me to the ground and breaking my glasses. I was dazed and confused, then angry at the insult. I rose up, my new lady friends joining me - and chased them into the woods with blood curdling cries of revenge.
As they ran toward their boat (a 77 Cadillac Eldorado), we laughed and taunted them as they drove away. We returned for the treasure and discovered it was only chocolate coins. Though we were a bit disappointed, we decided to celebrate a battle well won with chocolate and wine.
With this adventure a friendship was born; a treasure was captured and a tall tale was told.
